Faith felt so weak, like she couldn't go on even if she really wanted to...and she wasn't sure she wanted to. She just wanted to let go, to find peace at last, or at least for everything to be over, to finally be able to face up to all of the things she had done in her life. She was willing to take her punishment, just as long as she didn't have to do this anymore. She was so damn tired of fighting a fight that she was never going to win. She looked up through blurry eyes to see Angel kneeling next to her, trying to give her a pep talk just like always. Why couldn't he just let her go?

"I did my time," she told him in a raw, hoarse voice.

"Our time is never up, Faith. We pay for everything," he reminded her, his soft brown eyes begging her to be strong.

"It hurts," she gasped out. She didn't just mean the physical injuries that she had sustained from Angelus either. She meant all of it, everything that she had seen and done. It all suddenly came crashing down on her...what she had done, what kind of person she had become. It would be so easy to let go, she thought to herself. So easy to just lay here and die. Nobody would miss me...in fact, the world would be better off.

"I know," he said softly. "I know." And she knew that he *did* know because he had been there himself. As always, Angel was the only one who could really understand where she was coming from. Angel wasn't like everyone else with their sympathetic bullshit. He had been through everything that she was feeling and probably a hell of a lot worse, so when he said that he understood, she knew that he did. "Get up! You have to get up now. Faith, you have to fight. I need you to fight. Do you understand what I'm saying?"

She watched in horror as Angelus snuck up behind him with a metal pipe in his hands and a murderous look on his face. She opened her mouth to speak, to yell some kind of warning at Angel, but the words froze in her throat. She watched helplessly as Angelus took a swing at Angel's head with the metal pipe. It connected with a sickening thump, and Angel slumped to the ground, unconscious. Angelus gave him a vicious kick to the side, sending Angel rolling away from Faith. There was no response from the souled vampire as he lay there unresponding. Oh, god! she thought to herself. I have to help him! She tried to struggle to her feet as she listened to Angelus antagonize Angel.

"What won't I miss? The moralizing. Soul's already in the ether, boyo. I can smell it. How 'bout I send it off to that big puppy rescue in the sky," Angelus said with a smirk.

"Arf arf, psycho," Faith growled behind him, taking a fighting stance.

"Faith. Getting back into the game," Angelus said, smiling in pleasure.

"I guess I am," she said in a strong voice. You won't be smiling long, you sick fuck, she thought to herself angrily. She knew what he was gonna do even before he made a move, and when she saw him begin to take a swing at her with the pipe, she prepared to block him. Suddenly, she found she didn't have to, though, because she was no longer there in the alley with him. For a moment she had the sensation that she was floating, and then...

Faith awoke with a start, finding herself back in the hotel with Mr. Green and Horny. Holy shit, she thought to herself. What a fuckin' trip! Without missing a beat, she jumped to her feet and ran out of the room, knowing she had to find Angel and soon. She bounded through the lobby, relieved to see that good old faithful Willow was working her mojo to resoul Angel, but she didn't stop to watch the show. She ran through, bursting through the basement door to see Angel and Connor. The sitch didn't look good. Angel was still chained, apparently still caught up in their little dream rendezvous as he lay on the floor, mumbling something about needing someone to fight.

"I'm pretty clear about what you need," Connor said coldly, bringing his hand up to reveal a stake, poised and ready to send right through his dear ol' dad's unbeating heart.

That little fuck, Faith thought to herself angrily. No way is Junior dusting *my* Angel. Without pause, she leaped over the stair railing, skipping the stairs themselves altogether and landed behind Connor without him ever even noticing. Some big bad hunter you are, Junior, she thought to herself with a smirk. Faith caught Connor's wrist in her hand before he could drive it home into Angel's chest, catching the boy by surprise. "Break me off a switch, son," she said, sending Connor flying back against the cage wall. "There's about to be a whuppin'."

Connor glowered at her in anger, lunging at her, an intent to kill shining in his eyes. He was no match for Faith though, no matter how much his father had taught him. My clever, clever Angel, Faith thought with a smile. Taught Junior all the boy knows...but not nearly all that he knows himself. As she landed a punch to Connor's jaw, she wondered with a start when she had started to think of Angel as *her* Angel. He had never been hers, no matter how much she had wanted him to be. Her thoughts were interrupted by the arrival of Lorne, Fred, and good ol' Wes.

"She's alive. It's a miracle!" Lorne crowed happily, pleased to see that finally someone was giving Connor some much needed kicking of the ass.

Faith continued to pummel Connor, absorbing his blows like they were a gentle breeze blowing across her face instead of bone and knuckles. She landed a kick to his mid-section, sending him flying back against the cage where Angel stood, lucid and waiting.

Connor made a move as if to jump back into the fray with Faith, but Angel stopped him by wrapping one of his large hands around the boy's scrawny neck. "Connor, it's over," Angel said quietly. "It's me. Really." Connor stilled then, ceasing his attempts to jerk away from his father's grip. "I'm gonna let you go now, but you have to promise to calm down. You don't wanna fight Faith, Connor. She's one of us, one of the good guys."

"Yeah, and besides, she was *so* kicking your ass," Gunn blurted, having just caught the very end of the tussle. His remark put him on the receiving end of several sharp glances. "What?" he said, holding his hands up defensively. "Hey man, I'm only speaking the truth here. I haven't seen moves like that on a girl since...well, ever."

"Thanks, handsome," Faith said with a mischievous smile. "You're not so bad yourself from what I hear." She gave him a sly wink before turning her attention over to Connor. "So what's it gonna be, Junior? You gonna settle down or what? 'Cause you know, I'm not even winded here. I can kick your ass all day long."

Connor just stood there, his shoulders slumping, all will to fight completely gone. Angel released him slowly, and the boy bolted up the stairs, slamming the door behind him. Everyone watched his retreat, breathing a sigh of relief that the situation had been diffused.

"So what are we waiting for, my little muffins? Let's get Angelcakes out of this little cell," Lorne said pleasantly, clapping his hands together. As Wesley took the keys out of his pocket and walked over to unlock the cage door, Lorne leaned into Gunn conspiritorially. "I *like* this girl," he said with a big grin. "Can we keep her?"

*************************************

Later that evening, Angel stood outside in the garden, taking in deep lungfuls of unneeded air, relishing his freedom. It was good to be out of that cage. As he looked up at the night sky, just staring at the millions of stars twinkling softly in the sky, he heard the door open behind him. He didn't really need to turn around to know that it was her...her scent surrounded him, a heady mixture of fierce determination and sweet vulnerability.

"Hey," Faith said softly, walking up to stand beside him. She leaned forward on the railing, taking a moment to enjoy the beauty of the night as well. She too was enjoying her freedom, however temporary it might be.

"How are you feeling?" Angel asked.

"Like I did mushrooms and got eaten by a bear," Faith said with a shrug. She flashed him that smart-ass smile of hers, and he felt something inside of him stir in response.

"That about sums it up," he replied, thinking of the things they had been through and learned about one another in such a short time.

"Yep," she said simply, reaching up to brush a dark strand of hair out of her face.

"And now you're going to Sunnydale," he said, and Faith almost thought she detected a note of sorrow in his voice.

"I think I prefer the bear, but the way Willow talks it up, that's where I'm needed," she said, feeling a little reluctant to leave.

"Never stop fighting," Angel said in a weary tone, leaning against the rail next to Faith, his shoulder brushing hers.

Faith felt a jolt of electricity run through her when she felt his shoulder brush hers. What the hell is that about? she wondered to herself. "Hey, I was gonna, but someone got all pep-talky on me," she said, smiling nervously at him.

"Yeah. I'm sorry I didn't get to see you," he said a little wistfully. "Our little brain tour notwithstanding."

"Another time," Faith said, putting on a plastic smile.

Angel straightened up, stretching a little. "I have a lot to thank you for," he told her, his eyes locking on to her big brown ones.

"Well, that vice is plenty versa. I even start, it's only gonna lead to hugging, and..." she trailed off, giving him a small smile and a shrug.

"Right," he said, returning her smile with a sad one of his own. "We can't have that." Even as he said the words, he found himself closing the distance between himself and her.

"No," she agreed, looking up into his dark eyes. "That would be...not for the good." Before either of them knew what was happening, they were holding each other in a tight embrace, Angel's lips crushed against hers. He ran his fingers through her soft brown locks, letting his hand come to rest on the nape of her neck as his tongue dueled with hers in a brutal battle for dominance. Realizing what was happening between them, Angel pulled back after a moment, leaving Faith gasping for breath.

"God, Faith, I-I'm sorry-"

"You're apologizing?" she asked, a little hurt evident in her voice.

"No...I mean yeah...I mean, I don't regret it, but we should probably stop," he stammered.

Faith looked him straight in the eye. "Do you want to stop?" she asked in a challenging tone.

"I-I don't know. Do *you* want to stop?" he asked her.

"No."

"Neither do I," he admitted as he pulled her close.

"Good," she said with a big grin before jumping up and wrapping her legs around his waist. He groaned as he felt her grind against him, creating the most pleasant friction against his bulging erection. He leaned her against the rail as he frantically fumbled with the zipper on his pants. He was *way* out of practice at this. Quirking an eyebrow at him, she shoved his hands away and made quick work of his button and zipper, shoving his pants and boxers down around his knees triumphantly. She pushed him back a little, only putting her feet on the floor long enough to strip off her own pants before jumping back into his arms, wrapping her long, firms legs around him once more. "I want you, Angel," she said in a low, seductive voice. "I have always wanted you."

Not one to keep a lady waiting, Angel positioned himself at her entrance and thrusted into her hot, wet channel. Neither of them feared that he would lose his soul. They weren't kidding themselves...this wouldn't bring him perfect happiness. Still, the two of them had such a strong bond, and they both needed this. He groaned at he thrusted in and out of her, trailing kisses down her neck and chest. She grabbed fistfuls of his hair, thrusting back against him forcefully, riding him the way she had always wanted to.

"Oh Angel...oh god...I'm gonna-" Faith began, biting hard into his shoulder to prevent herself from screaming in ecstasy as her first orgasm washed over her. Angel was by far the best lover she had ever had. His member was so big and long, and it made her feel completely full in the most satisfying way to have him sheathed inside of her. She knew it had been awhile for him and that he probably wouldn't last long, and so she pushed him away a little and hopped down from the railing.

"What are you-?" he began in bewilderment. His question was soon answered however, when she turned her back towards him, leaning over the railing and exposing her firm backside and glistening sex to him. She spread her legs wide, leaning over as far as she could so that he could take her from behind.

"Wanna make this memorable," she murmured. She moaned softly as she felt him approach her, running his still hard member up and down her wet cleft, teasing her a little before thrusting into her again. This time he took her fast and hard, pounding into her for all he was worth. She moaned and writhed beneath him in pleasure as she clenched and unclenched her vaginal muscles around him.

"Faith, I'm gonna...I'm gonna-"

"Come for me, big boy," she growled, thrusting back viciously against him. Wanting her to join him in climax, he eased some of his weight off of her, reaching around to pinch her clit as he thrusted a few more times. Her climax set his own off as her vaginal muscles spasmed around his member, milking him for every drop of his dead semen. She gasped as he pulled out of her, quickly tucking his softening cock back into his pants. She ignored the fact that both of their juices were leaking down her thighs as she pulled her own pants back on, flashing him a wicked smile.

He smiled back, almost shyly. "That was-"

"That was wicked awesome, baby," she finished for him, giving him a big kiss on the lips. Pulling back from him, her expression grew more serious as she looked into his eyes. "You know I still have to go, though, right? They need me there. I gotta help them...I gotta help B," she said, dropping her eyes at the mention of his ex-love's name.

Hooking his index finger under her chin, he tilted her head up, forcing her to look into his eyes. "I know you have to go, and I understand, but do you think...maybe when it's all over..."

"If we win," she put in.

"*When* you win," he amended. "Do you think you might want to come back here? We could always use an extra champion around here...and I could always use a best friend."

"You mean that?" she asked, her voice cracking a little.

"I do," he replied sincerely.

"Then, yeah, I think I might be able to arrange that," she said with a big smile. "So, uh, you gonna be okay? I know it kind of sucks, having to leave things this way."

He gave her a reassuring smile. "I'll be fine, Faith. Everything's five by five."

She couldn't help but laugh at his use of her favorite phrase. "Don't you go stealing all of my good lines," she said, punching him lightly on the shoulder. "So I guess I should be going, huh?"

"I guess it's about that time." Taking her hand and giving it a reassuring squeeze, he opened the door that lead back in from the garden and led her through. The first site that greeted them when they walked back into the Hyperion was Connor sitting sullenly on the couch with a very cross looking Gunn standing in front of him, his arms crossed and a glare on his face. Sighing heavily, Connor looked down at his lap. "All right. I get it. I messed up," he said reluctantly.

"Hey, cheer up, punk," Faith said lightly, ruffling his hair as she walked by him. "That just makes you one of us."

"You headed out?" Gunn asked her, his demeanor softening as he turned his attention to Faith.

"Yeah, no tears, big guy," she said, raising her hand to give Gunn a high five.

"Nah, I'm good. I just wish I could've seen you kicking the crap out of junior, here," he said with a big grin. "I kinda only caught the end."

"It was pretty funny," Faith said with a grin, giving Connor a good- natured wink. Just then, Wesley made an appearance, not wanting to miss the chance to say good-bye to what was once *his* Slayer. "Wes," she greeted him casually, but not without warmth.

"Faith," Wesley returned, giving her a small nod.

"See. Brits know how to say goodbye. Angel here wanted a hug," she said, giving him a big, knowing grin.

"No, I didn't," Angel said quickly, actually managing to blush a little.

Everyone said their good-byes and exchanged hugs and kisses, and then it was time for Faith and Willow to leave. The tension was high in the lobby of the Hyperion because everyone knew what the two women were going off to face. Before she walked out the door, Faith paused and turned around, giving them all a big smile. "Hey, not to worry guys. I'll be back," she said, doing her best Arnold imitation. With that, she shut the door behind her, beginning her journey to Sunnydale and to redemption.

"She has a pretty good Terminator impression," Gunn said with a grin.

"Terminator? What is that? Some kind of demon or something?" Angel asked in bewilderment.

"Nah, man. It's an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie," Gunn said with a shake of his head. "Geez, Angel, you really need to get out more."
